Habitats of the World
By Iain Campbell, Ken Behrens, Charley Hesse, Keith Barnes, et. al.
Spearheaded by Iain Campbell and co-authored by several Tropical Birding guides, we are well on the way to publishing a global in addition to a series of continental books on habitats, and their associated wildlife. Iain has developed a global habitat system that is detailed enough to be useful, but simple enough to be understood by non botanists. Therein lies its beauty! Useful to citizen scientists and birders based on vegetation and animal communities they support. So far five books are out, with two (or three) more in the pipeline. This project has inspired our Habitats Tours that are a ‘Big Picture’ synthesis of environments and their components.
Birds of Greater Southern Africa
By Keith Barnes, Terry Stevenson and John Fanshawe
The seminal ‘Birds of Greater Southern Africa’ was published in Feb 2024, and has received a series of excellent reviews. A comprehensive modern field guide covering 1198 species in nine African countries and their adjacent marine territories, including eight oceanic island groups. Magnificently illustrated by John Gale, Brian Small and Faansie Peacock (larks), and describing every single subspecies in the region authored by Keith Barnes, Terry Stevenson and John Fanshawe, this book is the new ‘gold standard’ for any of the territories it covers. Check out our tours for the region that the book covers: South Africa, Namibia & Botswana, Zambia and Malawi.
